Initiatives of the Minersville Area Historical Society

Proposal by J. Stutz

1. Envision, define, organize and direct the historical effort and reach of the Historical Society. Plan, procure, prepare, preserve, promote and provide for area history.

2. Ascertain the interests and capabilities of the membership as a group and as individuals.

3. Conceive and establish a strategic plan to acquire and develop a record of our historical heritage within this area and establish historical efforts accordingly. Breakdown the effort into manageable, specific divisions-collection of artifact and paper, storage, display and information, education, research, investigative activity, collection from individuals and written sources, and individual and group projects.

4. Ensure that all projects retain a historical emphasis as the Society decides.

5. Establish committees to pursue and seek out the historical background of various segments and activities of our local society

6. Oversee and provide for specific interests by members including:

a. Origination of a program with standards to interview centenarians, nonagenarians, and octogenarians in our area to record their commentary for posterity.

b. Refurbishment and repair of significant historical markers in local cemeteries.

c. Document the individual and collective efforts of coal miners in our area.

d. Preparation of an underlay of mines under Minersville.

e. Research the sources of our particular accent.

f. Additional projects as desired by membership.

7. Establish and maintain liaison with other historical societies, local and nationwide.

8. Consider every member a historian.

9. Continually promote the concept that what we do in the Historical Society is not a job, but an adventure.

10. Ensure that an annual Christmas party happens, the tradition to begin in 2006
