ROUNDTABLE
ROUNDUP

Thursday July 13th

A grand time was had by all who attended our 2nd round table gathering.

In addition to our normal discussions, the following items were brought in for "show & tell".

Jack and Loretta Flynn showed a newspaper clipping from the Philadelphia Press, May 12, 1913, detailing the beginnings of the Minersville Ball Park.

They also showed two postcards of the Dr Pickett house, now the American Legion, at the turn of the century.

Jack Kline brought a book published by the "Pottsville Republican" a few years ago containing the newspapers from 1940-1945.  Many comments were made  concerning the content of "way back then!"

Joe Slovick, had on "consignment", a wooden cigar box of Miners Buffaloes,

cigars that were hand made in Minersville. After much discussion, it was determined the era was around 1920.

The Reed's brought in the family bible, containing a wedding photo, of possibly the 2nd generation Reed in the Minersville area.  Joseph Reed was the son of the first resident, Thomas.

Francis Burke showed and discussed the area where he uncovered "clamshell china" that dates to Revolutionary time in this area. Also, he presented an excellent "slate pencil" he unearthed in the Silverton school area.

We would like to thank Colleen and Joe Slovick for their hospitality in hosting this event once again.

(These are not official minutes of our evening, just observations by myself on an excellent evening. In addition, next time I will have fresh batteries so I can take more than one picture!
